Did you see the news that all of the #JWST instruments are aligned now?

Check out this comparison of one of the newly released calibration images from the MIRI instrument compared to images taken of the same region of space by the WISE and Spitzer space telescopes! Look at that resolution! So many newly resolved stars and structures! ๐Ÿคฉ

I can't wait for all the new discoveries we'll make with JWST! #Science data starts in only a couple months!

One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.

It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.

It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!

The Pudding is this amazing site that writes about unique topics and presents much of it visually.

They have a new article out that is interactive and is part of a study they're doing. Go participate in it. It's very short and worth your time.

The habit I'm struggling with the most with being new to @Mastodon is remembering to use hashtags. That seems to be one of the best ways to discover other people, and for people to discover you. Especially when you're not on an instance with a lot of users. I'm on my own instance and I'm the only user (by choice).

I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's
